That’s Bamnoli with koyana back water & dense forest. From here you get launch to Met Indavali ( base of Vasota ).
Our launch to Vasota from Bamnoli
After taking the necessary permit from the forest department officials, we found ourselves in the launch heading towards Met Indavli.
1.5 hr. required to reach Vasota from Bamnoli via launch
Dense forest all the way through, panoramic view of the Shivsagar lake in the and Konkan on the west
Digvijay performing some water stunts
Situated on the western edge of Satara district, this old warrior offers one of the most thrilling trek in the Sahyadri as far as trekking through forestation is concerned.
After reaching the forest department base camp at Met Indavli at 1300 hrs. We start our trek towards Vasota fort.
Temple of god Hanuman on the way towards Vasota Fort.
The path to Vasota fort is quite prominent.
Greeting the people enroute and taking their feedback we reached a point where one way continued to the fort and the other was marked with arrow towards Nageshwar. As decided we continued climbing towards Vasota and reached the top after two and half hours. From this junction Nageshwar is @ 2hr. of walking distance.
On entering the fort we see a Hanuman temple.
The path on the Right of the Maruti temple takes us towards Machi
To the right, one could see Khota Nageshwar, a pinnacle of Nageshwar, and the path to Nageshwar. Right behind, the sight of Koyna watering penetrating in the dense forest below was enthralling.
The path on the left of the Maruti temple takes us to Babukada. Fascinating cliff named Babukada, shaped like the letter ‘U’ that reminds us of Konkan Kada of Harishchandragad. The mountain seen in front of Babukada is the Old Vasota.
Enjoying monsoon in April with hails on return way to base camp
View of Vasota fort on the way towards Nageshwar.Total 3Hr. required to reach Nageshwar, from Vasota base
At a certain point the path to Nageshwar has cliff on one side and vegetation on the other. It’s really a thrilling but enjoyable experience
Nageshwar, At 10.45 am we were at Nageshwar
This is a place of pilgrimage for the villagers
Spectacular view from cave of Nageshwar
After 40-50 ft. steep climb we were at top of Nageshwar.
Doing some Tarzan stunts on return way
Amazing scenery with Koyana backwater & our launch
Huge launch with only 5 personal
The beauty of the place can be compared to the southern French resort of Saint Tropez.
That’s CD's Wagon R, with koyana backwater & amazing climate.

Dear Shrikant,
ReplyDeleteI referred your blog.
Basically we also have planned Vasota fort-Nageshwar and Mahimandangad/Chakdev trek on 2nd June and 3rd June 2012 and we are 12 ppl in number
But this time we have a problem that when I spoke to the forest officer at Bamnoli,I came to know that, the forest authorities have removed tents on the other side of Koyna dam.
As per forest officials, people going to Vasota and nageshwar are supposed to come back to Bamnoli before sunset hence Now in this case,Private boats are definately not affordable(Now they charge 2200 rupees to and fro and if twice means 4500 rupees will be spent only on boats in 2 days which is costly)
So far I know that there is one launch from Satara Jilha Parishad around 2:30 pm which charges 15 rupees per person for Vasota But it cannot solve our purpose because we cannot do Vasota-Nageshwar and return to Bamnoli before sunset
Since you have been there,is there any way to find out whether there is any government launch around 8:30 to 9:00 am because permission from forest department starts from 8:00 am
Also climbing Vasota from Konkan is not allowed because permission is given only from Bamnoli and also descending to konkan is not allowed I guess
